As we went to press yesterday Tuesday 14th January, 2020, sketchy news filtered into our newsroom of running battles supposedly between members of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) and supporters of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

At least one person was reportedly seriously wounded after being stabbed by an unknown assailant. A video recording sent to AYV depicted a violent scene close to the APC Headquarters at Old Railway Line in Freetown where scores of people were heard shouting “they are coming back; “they are regrouping; “we want the international community to take note; “this is real war and it is not good for Sierra Leone.”

Others in the video shouted: “see what they have done to our party task force man; “they stabbed him several times with knives.”

Unconfirmed eye witness reports state that the confrontation occurred while the body of an SLPP member was being conveyed along Hannah Benka-Coker Street for burial at Ascension Town Cemetery. Efforts to contact APC and SLPP authorities for explanation as to what actually happened were futile. However, we shall keep on trying.
