Sierra Leone is ranked the 50th most peaceful country in the world and 5th in Sub-Saharan Africa. This is according to the 2022 Global Peace Index (GPI) Report from the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). 

The Report, which ranks Sierra Leone four places behind Mauritius, Ghana, The Gambia and Botswana respectively, is scheduled to be released today Friday 17th June, 2022. 

The GPI is the foremost instrument used to measure peace around the world. It ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness. 

In the 2021 GPI, Sierra Leone was ranked 46th globally and 4th in Africa. Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world whilst Afghanistan is ranked the least peaceful at 163rd position.
