The 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games with 72 Commonwealth Nations has kick-off and team Sierra Leone has been represented. Speaking to Molia Kargbo a colleague sports journalist Chief of Mission for the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone Unisa Deen Kargbo says Sierra Leone Delegation comprised of sixty in total which comprised of 45 Athletes in the Games village and the others outside the games
The quad annual Games for seventy two commonwealth Games was last hosted in Goal coast, Australia. This year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, London it’s opening ceremony has staged in the Alexandra Stadium.
While giving update on Sierra Leone’s delegation, Chief of Mission for the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone Unisa Deen Kargbo says every Athletes are excited to witness the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. Noting for this year Commonwealth Games they are looking forward to good participation especially for Boxing among other disciplines whose two female boxers have qualified to the quarter-final.
Boxing is among the nine sporting disciplines that formed team Sierra Leone. Secretary General Sierra Leone Boxing Association Alhaji Komba said Sierra 🇸🇱 Leone’s Sara Joo and Zainab Keita have both qualified to the quarter-finals in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth games as they get bye in their respective draws in the 50kg and 70kg draws.
This is the first ever female representation of Sierra Leone at the Commonwealth Games and the first time, we are competiting in the quarter-final stage of the competition.
The boxing rules have also provided a qualification for 61-63.5Kg John Browne and 63-67Kg Yusif Deen Kargbo respectively to the round of 16 without throwing punches.
Two Swimmers Jushua Wise and Isah Kanu will be in the pool on the 29th July 2022 in Heat one for 50 meters Butter fly and Breast Stroke respectively. Those event will be considered as Sierra Leone’s first events for the nine disciplines that are represented.
