Sierra Leonean Minister of Social Welfare, Baindu Dansama yesterday 30th August, 2022 informed newsmen that all the children arrested during the August 10 violence will be released this week.

She encouraged parents and guardians to ensure they offer good parenting to their kids, stating that President Dr. Julius Maada Bio is very concerned about educating the kids and their return to school this September.

However, despite it was not clear on to press time how and to whom the children will be released or put in care of, it was clear that the arrested children were in the safe custody of the Police Family Support Unit (FSU) before being handed over to the Social Welfare Ministry.

The police and ministry say all calls for parents to go identify their children among the arrested and ensure they are reunited with their families proved futile to a large extent as some parents failed to show up.

It can be recalled that following violent protests that took place in various parts of the country on August 10, 2022, the Sierra Leone Police arrested 24 juveniles, including 18 boys and 6 girls.

The arrests were made in Freetown and in the North and North-east of the country.
