The Minister of Trade and Industry Dr. Edward Hinga Sandy has assured members of the newly constituted Local Content Agency Board of Directors of a friendly working relationship. He said the opportunity given to them to serve on the board, is for them to help towards the growth and development of the country’s local content.
The Sierra Leone Local Content Agency was established by an Act of Parliament to promote Sierra Leone’s Local content in a range of sectors such as, mining, petroleum, agriculture, transportation among others.
Speaking at the board meeting, the Minister of Trade and Industry Dr. Edward Hinga Sandy urged members of the board to do their best in developing the country’s local content. “The local content has a clear mandate, ie for the interest of Sierra Leone and Sierra Leoneans to be protected while we promote local businesses,” he noted.
The meeting held at the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s conference room, was for the board members to discuss the way forward of the Local Content Agency. This was the first time for the 11 appointed board members to meet since their appointment.
Giving a status update about the activities of the Local Content Agency, the Director General and Secretary to the Board, Fodeba Daboh said under staffing, low budgetary allocation, inadequate office space, are among the numerous challenges of the agency. He however noted that there has been considerable improvement, adding that the Agency has been able to establish strategic partnerships with key donors, ministries, departments and agencies.
The Board is charged with the responsibility to provide policy guidance and advice that will secure the efficient implementation of the Agency and enhance its overall performance.
