According to tradition the position of Argba Okoro can only be attained through succession, meaning Umar who is the eldest son of the family should succeed his father in the society upon his death.

After the death and successful burial of PA Mohamed Barrie in November 2016, three days  later members of the Poro Secret Society visited the residence of umaru in Gbonima Village about 40 miles from the Southern City of Bo and demanded that he (Umar) must replace his father as the Argba of the society and must undergo robust initiation ceremony.

Umar’s Mother, Madam Haja Barrie refused to give up her son due to the fact that her son is no way connected to secret society and she will not allow them to take him.

During the process a scuffles erupted between members of the society and relatives of Umar, but he (Umaru) managed to escape the scene after serious scuffeles and struggle. 

Family sources has it to say that Umar managed to flee the country for the fair of his life and that of his family.

 Sources within the society, indicated that the search for Umar Alpha Barrie is still ongoing as members of the society are still harassing members of Umar’s family to the extent that they had been limited from enjoying and attending certain functions in the village.

 It was revealed that a bounty was place on the head of Umar, and a handsome reward was placed for any person who will show his way about.

Meanwhile, family members of Umar have resisted all urged to participate in all traditional activities and rumors has it to say that they are planning to leave the village due to the constant intimidation and harassment.
