Speaking on the party’s preparations for the said conference, the Acting Secretary General said they have held series of meetings at the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) with other stakeholders of the party, adding that they have their rules and regulations that have been adopted in the party.
He said these rules and regulations have been gazetted.
Speaking on the activities to be expected during the convention, he said that they will be having a meeting with the National Electoral Commission (NEC) this Saturday (4th June), where they will decide the time table for the conduct of the lower level executive elections.
He explained that before the convention they will have the different layers of the party and that they need to conduct elections in those areas. ‘When all these elections would have been completed, these are the people that would elect national officers of the party’.
He further explained that after the election of the national officers of the party, it is that body that will in turn set the timetable for the flag bearer election. ‘These are two sets of elections,’ he stressed.
“We don’t have flag bearers as at now because there are procedures, the national executive will draw rules for those that will aspire. The people will apply that they would be vying for the leaders of the party,” he said, noting that those claiming to be aspirants are just breaching the rules.
