According to the charge sheet, the offence of Sexual Penetration of a Child negates Section (19) of the Sexual Offences Act No.12 of 2012 of the laws of Sierra Leone.
The evidenced further adduced revealed that the victim’s name (withheld) was going to buy some food stuff in the market, when the convict Musa Koroma called and offered her a mobile phone.
The evidence further indicated that the convict later invited the victim in his bedroom, where he penetrated her sex organ. It was also gathered that when the victim returned home, she informed her mother about what had transpired between her and the convict before the matter was reported the matter at a police Station.
The convict was committed to stand trial in the High Court of Sierra Leone for the offence charged, on 15 November 2018, but he initially pleaded not guilty when the charge was put to him.
But In the middle of the trial, the convict Musa Koroma pleaded guilty to the offence of Sexual Penetration of Child and begged for mercy.
Before slamming sentence on the convict, the adjudicating judge, Hon. Justice Sengu Koroma said the offence of Sexual Penetration was ratified by Parliament as a solid and dependable laws, aimed at protecting girl child from potential sex offenders.
He told the court that the punishment for the offence of Sexual Penetration of a Child is a fifteen years jail term, but after taking certain factors into consideration, he would sentence the convict to ten years imprisonment.
The convict Musa Koroma has started serving his jail at the Male Correction Centre on Pademba Road in the west part of Freetown.
The State was represented by Lytton Jones, while the convict, Musa Koroma was defended by Barrister Sonia -Bobanie Brown from the Legal Aid Board.
