A hundred million Leones was donated by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) and seventy five million Leones by the FA Cup sponsors, LEOCEM.

Making a presentation at the Kenema Town Field, the FA President, Madam Isha Johansen announced that apart from the amount donated, the FA will be providing two sets of jerseys and technical assistants including match balls and several training equipment. She mentioned that Kenema is one of the districts that has been contributing immensely towards the development of football in the country.

“Kamboi Eagles, you are blessed; the people of Kenema, you are blessed with some of the most talented footballers in the country. I recognized that eight years ago, when FC Johansen discovered a gem in the form of a very talented youngster called Issa Koroma (Madam). Sadly, Madam did not live long enough to carry the torch for Kenema and Sierra Leone but his memory and legacy live on forever,” she said.

Madam Johansen admonished Kamboi Eagles that though the excitement is building, they should bear in mind that they are going to represent Sierra Leone and not just a club or a town.

“Football is about chasing dreams; dreams that go beyond your present situation. You must aspire to put Sierra Leone first at all times because it is the GREEN, WHITE and BLUE that you will be flying in Algeria. I wish you well in both encounters,” Madam Johansen said

Responding on behalf of Kamboi Eagles, the Chairman, Ibrahim Kamara commonly known as Mazolla expressed his sincere gratitude to the FA President noting that without her intervention, they wouldn’t be going to Algeria. He noted that despite the CAF ban on Sierra Leone to host international matches, the FA President stood by them to ensure that they get a venue and also create avenue for them to have a smooth stay in Algeria for both encounters.

“We are very grateful to you and LEOCEM for this wonderful contribution and hope this union will continue to flourish on and on and on…,” he said.

Kamboi Eagles won the LEOCEM FA Cup last year after a 3-2 win over East end Lions in a pulsating finals but were financially constraints to honor their first leg encounter in Algeria on Friday February 13 and also find a venue to play the return leg two weeks later.

The 30-man delegation will depart Sierra Leone in the early hours of Tuesday with Royal Air Maroc and arrive in Algiers the following morning.
