Sierra Leone’s Correctional Service reports that a total of 1,376 inmates, who escaped from detention during the prison break of November 2023 attempted coup, are still at large and being searched for.
Acting Director General of the Correctional Services, Brigadier General, Sahr D.T. Ngaujah said as of November 26, 2023, a total of 1,919 inmates were in custody.
He said 1,890 inmates escaped, 514 recaptured and 90 voluntarily returned.
Mr. Ngaujah assured that the authorities are actively pursuing the escapees still at large, emphasising the need for effective law enforcement collaboration.
