25 Years Old Sex Offender Returns to Jail

Led in evidence by State Counsel E. T. Jalloh, the fourth prosecution witness, Police Sergeant, Augusta Ballay Sesay testified that she lives at Middle Hill Station in Freetown and is attached to the Legal and Justice Department, at Central Police Station; and that she was formerly attached to the Family Support Unit at Congo Cross Police Division.

She narrated that after the victim’s mother had reported the matter at the Congo Cross Police Division on the above mentioned date, she obtained voluntary caution statement from the accused person, Issac Simeon and witnesses in respect of the offence as charged.

According to Sergeant Augusta Ballay Sesay, she cautioned and questioned the accused person in Krio language, which was recorded in English language, and that at the conclusion of the voluntary caution statement, she read and explained to the accused person in Krio language, which the accused person accepted to be true and correct, and later validated by signing in his own hand-writing.

Police Sergeant Augusta Ballay Sesay further narrated that on 5 February 2016, she finally charged the accused person, Issac Simeon for the offence of Sexual Penetration of a Child under the age of eighteen years.

Africa Young Voices (AYV) can confirm that the voluntary caution statement and the charge statement of the accused person were produced and tendered in evidence by the prosecution witness.

The accused, Issac Simeon had no legal representation when the matter was mentioned.  Hon. Justice Monfred Sesay adjourned the matter to Thursday 9 August 2018.
