The Sierra Leone Police has dismissed 27 officers following investigations that found them Guilty onMisconduct.
Director of Professional Standards in the Sierra Leone Police, Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Francis Harley, said the officers were prosecuted in separate police tribunals conducted by the Complaints, Discipline and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID).
He said disciplinary actions were part of the Force’s broader efforts to uphold integrity and professionalism, while noting that 27 training programs had been organized for police personnel nationwide.
These training sessions covered a range of critical areas, including scientific lab techniques, information and communication technology (ICT), human rights, sexual and gender-based violence, cybersecurity and legal studies.
AIG John Martin Senesie, Director of Operations, disclosed that the force had intensified efforts to improve cybersecurity and surveillance. To enhance monitoring of criminal activities and the behavior of officers, 38 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed across the Western Area and Mile 38. This initiative aims to ensure accountability and strengthen public safety.
Meanwhile, AIG Andrew Kamara, Regional Police Commander East, reported on an incident involving Guinean officials crossing into Yenga, Kailahun district, to register Sierra Leonean citizens. The incursion faced resistance from local stakeholders, prompting a meeting involving police, military personnel, and the Office of National Security (ONS).
The parties reached an agreement that Guinean officials would consult local stakeholders before undertaking such activities in the future. AIG Kamara assured the public that the general security situation in the country remains calm and stable.
