Sierra Leone’s Special Envoy for Trade and Investments, Ambassador Abu Coomber, under the West African Alliance for Africa Improvement Council (WAAIC), has successfully secured international support, resulting in the delivery of critical healthcare supplies to the newly built 34 Military Hospital in Sierra Leone.

First Lady Fatima Maada Bio announced the support on her official Facebook account.
The items, which include patient mobility aids, sanitation tools, diagnostic instruments, and protective gear, were officially handed over to bolster the hospital’s readiness and capacity for advanced treatment services on April 28th 2025.
Among the contributions were hospital stretchers, wheelchairs, walking supports, sterilisation equipment, disposable gloves and gowns, injection kits, optical testing tools, and other medical and support materials.
This contribution was facilitated through WAAIC’s engagement with healthcare institutions and community partners in the United States. “Special thanks to Brigham and Women Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, Franciscan Children’s Hospital, residents of the Brookline community in Massachusetts, our colleagues, nurses, doctors, friends, and families in the United States,” Ambassador Coomber told Awareness Times during a phone conversation.
The Ambassador acknowledged the collaboration as a strategic step toward improving public healthcare access in Sierra Leone.
The consignment aims to support the operational launch of the hospital and reinforce its role as a modern healthcare centre for both civilians and military personnel.
