The Government of Sierra Leone has announced that it has declared free, the late Idrissa Hamid Kamara (Leader Boots), Dankay Koroma, Sorie Ibrahim Koroma (Street Ambassador), Umaru Rahman (Gallon Pan), Hon. David Johnson, and thirty-two other people from the government’s wanted list.

The announcement, made by Attorney General and Minister of Justice Alpha Sesay, Esq., follows recommendations from the Resolution 4 Oversight Committee under the Agreement for National Unity (ANU) signed between the Government and the APC on October 18, 2023.

According to the Attorney General, the individuals, whose names were submitted by the APC, are now “free to go about their normal businesses without any interruptions,” as part of the Government’s commitment to fully implement all clauses of the ANU.

A statement from the Office of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice says, “Under Resolution 4 of the Agreement for National Unity (ANU), which was signed by the Government of Sierra Leone (the Government) and the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party on 18th October, 2023, the Government, based on recommendations of the Resolution 4 Oversight Committee, has examined the list submitted by the APC and has determined that the detainees are not subjects of any criminal investigations and are therefore free to go about”.

The decision, according to the government, is part of its commitment to implement all clauses in the Agreement for National Unity.

In a similar development, Alpha Sheriff, also known as APC Sheriff, who was found Guilty and sentenced to five years of imprisonment by Honourable Justice Adrian Fisher in the High Court of Freetown for operating an unauthorised private security company, has been set free.

The sentence includes the 22 months they have already spent in pre-trial detention, making them the first individuals convicted under the National Security and Central Intelligence Act of 2023.

Sheriff was additionally found Guilty of Possessing Unlicensed Firearms and Unlawfully Concealing Weapons, for which the sentence was equivalent to the time served.

The Mayor of Freetown, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has described the move as “a day of mixed blessings,” celebrating the release of “APC Sheriff” and the clearance of the 37 members, while also marking the third anniversary of the killing of Evangelist Samson, which she commemorated with a tribute on social media.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr said, “A day of mixed blessings. Thrilled that under Res 4, APC Sheriff has been released & all charges/investigations have been dropped for 37 APC members, mostly in exile! It is also the 3rd anniversary of the killing of Evangelist Samson. RIP”.
