“I am not here tonight by accident to grace the Family United charitable occasion. The New Direction government in Sierra Leone has witnessed the remarkable job Family United is doing and continuing to do to help the disabled and the less privileged in our country especially in Kenema,” Minister Haji Kella noted.
He appealed to everyone present to dig deep in their pockets and purses to raise the financial capability of Family United through donations either in cash or in kind so as to make the ambitious dream of Family United to help persons of disability in Sierra Leonean communities become a reality.
Minister Haji Kella was in the company of top government officials from the Sierra Leone High Commission in the United Kingdom including the High Commissioner and the Deputy High Commissioner when he made the crowd-pulling speech much to the delight of the Family United officials and their supporters.
The Family United Public Relations Officer Mohamed Saadu Jalloh earlier trumpeted the achievement of Family United and touched on the renovation of the building that was donated by the government. He said the facilitation of the proposed Vocational Training Centre in Kenema for the disabled and the less privileged is their top priority at the moment.
For clarification, footage of the donated edifice was zoomed on a large screen showing the unfurnished and renovated building from different angles thus making it explicit for the Family United PRO Saadu Jalloh to emphasize the urgent need to raise the much-needed finances for the quick realization of the project in Kenema.
“Family United is targeting around $100,000 US dollars to complete the rehabilitation of the Vocational Training Centre as well as to furnish the building with the appropriate tools for the vocational courses intended for the disabled and the needy. “This is why we are appealing for more donations from the public,” Saadu Jalloh appealed.
The climax of the event was the fundraising agenda, which was conducted by the MCs Alan Smith and Isata Sesay Jalloh. Many cash donations were made. Some donations were made in secret. Those were assumed to be huge sums; while others were made in public. It was an all-round success for Family United.
