Hon. Joseph William Lamin of constituency 081, who pioneered the construction of the seven schools, said Children’s rights to life, food, health care and quality education is his top most priority.

He added that programme for children Sierra Leone also provided primary and secondary schools and other developmental programs for Sulehun,Gbaama, Gbagayma, Jomborhun, Pelewahun, Fanima,Kambama, mile 38,Koya chiefdom, Port Loko District, among other villages in Bo district.

He said the school initiative is to address the challenge of children walking over 6 miles to and from schools in bigger communities.

The Member of Parliament said the opportunity would meet the targets of the sustainable development goals since promoting children’s rights have a multiplier effects on the country’s economic and social growth.

He maintained that his primary role in parliament is not just to represent his constituents but to also make laws and also serve as over sight for better and effective governance.

The community stakeholders expressed appreciation towards the gesture noting that it was very hard for their children to complete both primary and secondary education especially the girl child, as pregnancy would drop them out of school no sooner they reach puberty age due to the long distance they have to cover to and from schools; as their peers may tend to take advantage of the distance along the bush ways to school.

Some communities benefitted from water wells, mosques and community centers that are currently under construction.

People in these communities within Bongor, Jaama, and Wonde chiefdoms in Bo District are predominantly farmers and petty traders, some of their children who were fortunate to complete secondary education are now teaching their younger ones; to address untrained and unqualified teaching gaps in the communities.

Programme for Children Sierra Leone was established in 2004 and had constructed over 20 schools in the western area, north and southern province in the country.
