Appointing Mohamed Bangura as Information and Communications Minister and Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden as Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, for example, is worth commending the president for, as such appointments could only be best described as steps in the right direction.
It is therefore but fitting to start off by congratulating the two individuals who have contributed in diverse ways towards shaping the future of Sierra Leone.
It is no gainsaying the fact that the President could have considered the youthfulness and developmental drive of these two individuals to necessitate the appointments.
There should also be no doubt that these presidential nominees will successfully sail through the well of parliament as their track records speak volumes.
For Dr. Blyden, her record of mentoring young people alone is enough to earn her any position, including the presidency of this country. She is considered by thousands of young Sierra Leoneans as a mother because of her passion to promote young folks and her philanthropic gestures. Records of scholarships she has provided for young people at all levels including us, the young journalists, speak for themselves. Need we mention her achievement in the field of journalism and advocacy for young people? In summary, there could be no better person to be at the helm of affairs at the Social Welfare Ministry other than Dr. Blyden.
As for Mohamed Bangura, he would always be remembered for changing the narration of politics in Sierra Leone. He is always at the forefront when it comes to political activism and seeking the welfare of disadvantaged Sierra Leoneans.
Even before coming into politics, the young man had been seeking the interest of Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad. Posterity will richly reward Mohamed Bangura for providing aid materials and evacuating dozens of Sierra Leoneans during the country’s civil war. Bangura has the prospect of using his new office to continue to serve the interest of the young people of Sierra Leone.
I will implore all Sierra Leoneans to reserve their apprehensions and pessimisms about these two individuals and others appointed until they prove you right. For now, we should all remain proud of Blyden and Bangura and congratulate them on their new assignments. Congratulations to you guys.
