The Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the USL, Ekundayo Thompson in his declaration of purpose said, the University has for a long time been battling with facilities such as lecture rooms, good toilet facilities, parking spaces, offices and many more. For this reason, Mr. Thompson said the USL decided to embark on a project of construction and reconstruction of buildings.

He said the project includes expansion of the Faculty of Nursing, multipurpose expansion at Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), secretariat building project, The Adjai Crowther Amphitheatre and bore-hole sites at Fourah Bay College (FBC).

The Acting Vice-Chancellor also said it includes inspection of the rehabilitated building housing the Centre for Disease Control (CDC).

Inspecting the rehabilitated building housing the CDC and the ongoing expansion at the Faculty of Nursing, the Acting Provost, COMAHS, Dr. Samai said, it is of great importance for the USL to assist in improving healthcare in the country.

At IPAM, Professor Allyson Sesay, the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of IPAM said that IPAM has been renting different venues for lectures. He said the construction of a seven-floor building is a great improvement.

FBC project sites include the Adjai Crowther Amphitheatre, multipurpose building and bore-hole sites. The Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor, Sahr Thomas Gbamanja, spoke about a planned budget of over three billion Leones slated for the construction of the amphitheatre only. He said the project was funded by the university with rents and fees.

Professor Gbamanja said the USL also intends to construct other buildings and facilities, including accommodation for lecturers.

Water supply storage has also been on construction to supply water to the whole of FBC and also a pump room is on construction at IPAM.

Dr. Mustapha O. Thomas of the Geology Department at the FBC explained how a pipe will run through underground to all parts of the university.

The Public Relations Officer at the USL, Munda Rogers, said the project at FBC is due to end in January 2016 and those at IPAM and COMAHS, in June 2016.
