He said he has seen people with all kinds of eye problems with two pterygia operations. Pterygia, he explained, is a growth in the eye.
The nurse working with him, Solomon Johnson said even though the hospital had started operations months ago, in two weeks of operation, they have repaired dozens of eyes. Nurse Johnson said the two operations they conducted were very successful and because the Chinese doctors are here from their government the fees they are charging are minimal.
Dr. Zeng disclosed that they have started registering people with cataract and they are calling on people with such condition to visit the Jui hospital and register.
“We have a team of specialised doctors under the program, ‘Bright Journey Eye Camp for Cataract Surgery’ that will come to Sierra Leone to do operations on cataract. We want to register up to 500 people with this condition so that when the team arrives they will start operations in earnest,” Dr. Zeng revealed.
He disclosed that so far twenty people have been registered. He emphasised that the operation will be done free of cost after they would have paid a minimal registration fee of Le 30, 000 (thirty thousand Leones).
The Ear, Nose and Throat specialists are in Sierra Leone courtesy of the Chinese Government to render specialist medical services to the people of Sierra Leone on pro bono.
“Many Africans are suffering from eye problem that is why our government is determined to help by providing free operations for affected people. It is in this vein that we hope Sierra Leoneans will take advantage of this opportunity so that they can receive better eye sights,” Dr. Zeng stated.
