Since its inception, the organization has been very proactive in responding to disaster and outbreak in Sierra Leone citing the eleven years civil war, the Ebola outbreak and September 16th flooding in Freetown.

Twenty one media houses participated in the workshop.

Patrick Massaquoi is the Communications Coordinator explained to journalists about the significant roles the Red Cross society has been playing in the country especially during the Ebola outbreak.

Samson Oche who serves as the Information Technology Expert Red Cross Society gave an overview on the aims and objectives of the organization as according to him, the Red Cross was in the forefront fighting the Ebola disease  affirming that  50 percent of the safe and dignified burials done during the Ebola epidemic was championed by staff and volunteers of the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society and  assured the public that the Red Society has started given free psychosocial support to three hundred and eighty-seven thousand (387) people across the country.

Steven Koroma, Branch Development and Governance Support Officer spoke on the importance of volunteerism in national development noting that the Red Cross Society is a humanitarian organization looking for more volunteers that would help accelerate the work of the organization towards nation building.
