The Deputy Minister emphasized the roles and responsibilities of the Political and Public Affairs Ministry, while he called on the various parties to resolve their dispute and map out positive resolutions for the progress of their chiefdoms, adding that such moves would subsequently bring satisfaction to his Ministry and the Government of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.
The Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Rashin Bundu, who is the District Chairman of the governing All People’s Congress (APC) Party, gave tangible reasons for his involvement in resolving the land dispute between the agricultural company and the land owners.
He stressed that as an indigene of Port Loko District, District Chairman of the APC, Majority Leader and Head of Government Business in Parliament, it is his responsibility to ensure that such matter is laid to rest amicably in order to restore peace and sanity to his people.
The Public Relations Officer of Land Owners, Mr. Abdul Kemoh Sesay, lauded the Deputy Minister and Majority Leader of Parliament for their timely intervention.
On behalf of the landowners, he expressed dissatisfaction with the current status of their lands which he attributed to a breach of contract between them and the agricultural company.
According to the PRO, SLAL failed to fulfill its own part of the contract agreement signed seven years ago.
The Chief Executive Officer of SLAL, Mr. Gangan, hailed the intervention of the Political and Public Affairs Ministry and the Majority Leader in the land dispute which he said has yielded dividend.
He lauded the Deputy Minister and the Majority Leader for amicably resolving the dispute between them and the landowners.
He acknowledged some of their oversight responsibilities and agreed to rectify them in order to enhance peaceful coexistence.
