He however condemned the violent incident that occurred on Saturday and other isolated acts of violence that have been happening since the announcement of some portions of the results. He mentioned that such incidences are cause for concern to them as an inter-religious council considering the fact that they are moral guarantors of peace.
Underscoring the importance of the Inter-Religious Council he said that most of those engaged in acts of violence belong to different religions in the country. He noted that these people must be seen demonstrating what they are been taught by the different religious leaders in their various groups.
Rev. Khanu appealed to Sierra Leoneans to be very responsible while jubilating for whoever might win the election, adding their jubilating should not infringe on the feelings of others. “Celebration is good but when it is done in the wrong way it leads to chaos,” he said. Rev. Khanu further said that whoever wins is a winner for all of Sierra Leone because the winner is not president of one political party but president of the whole country.
He added that the IRCSL is currently engaging Sierra Leoneans in the various communities to encourage them to accept the elections result in good faith for the sake of the country and for peace. He appealed that the winning team and those who may not be fortunate to win should embrace each other. He continued to say that they will also be engaging political leaders to talk to their supporters to maintain the peace in the country.
He ended by urging everyone to be patient and wait on NEC to make the final announcement of the results.
