The 7th March multi-tier elections according to Mr. Lavallie was one of the most decent elections in the country because it was peaceful, free and fair; in sharp contrast with past elections in other African countries where lots of tensions arose among the citizens.

“Vehicle restriction impacted negatively on voter turnout,” Mr. Lavallie said during an interview, adding that this was because voters were naturally afraid of the police moving up and down the streets which was also intimidating, he said.

Mr. Lavallie went on to say that their projection indicates that voting pattern in the runoff would also be based on policy. He added that they interviewed an average of 5,000 voters countrywide on the eve on the March 7th poll about their voting priority. He added that during their survey 42.5% said they will be voting for Maada Bio, while 41% chose Samura Kamara and the rest chose other party candidates.

“Lots of people voted on policy because both ruling and opposition parties won seats in the strongholds of their respective opponents simply because they loved the policy of the candidate,” Mr. Lavallie said.
