According to Massaquio the Commission is moving on especially as the injunction was vacated and they are now ensuring that they transport voting materials and polling staff deployed at their respective stations across the country to conduct the run-off election.
He added that, the Commission has instructed its lawyers to continue in the matter taken to the Supreme Court to argue that the High Court does not have the jurisdiction and that NEC was not given the opportunity to be heard during the proceedings.
“We were getting prepared when the injunction was slammed,” Massaquio said; adding that they will be resuming their work and that they have already fueled vehicles to take voting materials across the country.
Staffs at NEC, according to Massaquio were not sacked. He however stated that they have scaled down some contract staffs that were employed for the multi-tier elections and that due to the type of election that would be held on Saturday NEC would not need as many contractual staff as it did for the March 7 elections.
“We employed 84, 000 staffs and some positions may no longer be required like the ballot paper issuer two, ballot box controller two because we have four elections we had to have all of the staffs and so we are now going to reduce it to 62,000,” Massaquio informed AYV.
