He explained that the main and real problems for the frequent electricity blackouts that have been haunting consumers in the Western Area for some days now is because the generation capacity of the Bumbuna Hydro Power Dam has dropped from 45 Mega Watts to 8 Mega Watts due to massive drop in the water level. He added that ADDAX which used to produce and supply EDSA with 12 Mega Watts of electricity has ceased operations due to technical problems according to the ADDAX management.

He maintained that though the current power outages is a serious concern and a challenge for the EDSA, they are doing all within their power to resolve the situation, adding that during the rainy season electricity generation and supply is at an all time high but that with the advent of the dry season the issue of power outages becomes apparent.

On the issue of the electricity ship from Turkey which is here on a five year contract to provide electricity, Mr. Nepor said that modalities are still being put in place for it to start operations and that when everything has been put in place, the management of the ship would announce when generation and supply of electricity would start.

He used the opportunity to apologize to EDSA’s numerous consumers for the inconveniences they might be going through, adding that the situation is temporary as they are currently in consultation with their partners and other stakeholders to remedy the situation soonest.
