They are also charged with the offence of Unlawful Possession of a prohibited drug, contrary to Section (8a) of the National Drugs Control Act of 2018.

The Particulars of Offence disclosed that Inspector Donald Kandeh Zizer and Ibrahim Bangura being police officers attached to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit ((TOCU) headquarter at Hastings, aided and abetted the first accused person , Nigerian-born Isaac Chukwunoso in the commission of an offence to wit: Importation of a prohibited drug to wit: One kilogram of cocaine.

In his testimony, the prosecution witness, Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police, Francis Lawrence testified that, he is attached to the Criminal Investigation Department branch at the Gendema Police Station, Mano River in the Sowoegbema Chiefdom,  Pujehun District in the southern part of Sierra Leone.

He informed the court that he recognized the accused person, Nigerian-born Isaac Chukwunoso and vividly recalled the incident of 17 July 2018, adding that on the day in question; he was on duty at the Criminal Investigation Branch at the Gendema Police Station.

Detective Francis Lawrence further testified that they were patrolling together with Assistant Superintendent of Police, Cecilia Koroma and other police personnel along the Sierra Leone – Liberia border at Gendema when he intercepted the first accused person.

According to the witness, when he cautioned and questioned the first accused person, Isaac Chukwunoso, he confessed that he was in possession of nine pellets suspected to be cocaine and was trafficking it from the Republic of Guinea to Liberia.

He added that the first accused person was then arrested and the exhibits handed over to officers of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) for further investigation.

Another prosecution witness, Detective Inspector Alie Mansaray told the court that he recognized the three accused persons and also recalled 18 July 2018.

He narrated that presumptive test was done on the nine pellets handed over to him for further investigation, and that it was proved to be cocaine. He said he also obtained voluntary caution statement from the first accused person on 19 July 2018.

The matter comes up again on Thursday 23 August 2018.
