Staff of the Public Education and External Outreach Department of the Commission addressed pupils and teachers of the schools on issues of bribery and corruption in the education sector and to solicit their support in the Pay No Bribe campaign.

Meet the School campaign’ is one of the Commission’s educational strategies to inform and change the attitudes of pupils and teachers in order for them to uphold integrity in the school system.

Assistant Public Education Officer at ACC Mohamed Kabba cajoled pupils and teachers to develop interest in anti-corruption issues.

Speaking on issues bordering on bribery and corruption in the education sector, Mr. Kabba decried teachers in public and private schools who are in the habit of extorting money from pupils for extra classes, assignments and grades; warning them to desist from such practices or face the wrath of the law.

He also warned them against the morally derange act of sex for grade, an act which “destroys and derails the education and development of the girl child

Responding to questions from teachers and pupils Public Education Officer of the Commission Junisa Sankoh said, the purpose of the engagement is to transmit the tenet of integrity to pupils so when they grow up they will live with it; using the phrase “Catch them when they are young”. Mr. Sankoh spoke on the offences of abuse of office and position, as well as soliciting and accepting bribes.

He called on the staff and pupils to make use of the 515 (all networks) free phone line and report any act of bribery to the Commission and warned them against malicious reporting.

The ‘Meet the Schools’ campaign programmes were climaxed with the distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials to the Principals of the two schools.
