He added that one way of changing that tragedy is to create awareness and access to information, thus the need for launching of this journal because it is unique for business development expansion in Sierra Leone,
Making his statement, Sahr Wundi, Director General NMA stated that the mining sector is critically important because it contributes about 20.25% to our economy.

He said the sector over the years suffered for lack of transparency, accountability and institutional capacity that made it difficult to produce the desired results.

He further stated that the launching is not only a significant step to create awareness and access to information but also demonstrates government’s continued commitment to raise awareness about Sierra Leone’s rich mineral potentials and opportunities.

Evline Blackie, Deputy Minister of Mines underscored the tireless effort of President Bio’s New Direction Government to promote the development of the minerals sector in Sierra Leone with a view to attracting serious investors and guarantee consistent flow of revenue for government, job creation for Sierra Leoneans, benefit to local communities and return on investment for the investor.

She added that the government is aware that it takes more than the abundance of minerals in a particular country to attract investors because the investors require sufficient guarantees of a business friendly environment characterized by predictable laws, fiscal stability, transparency, and security tenure.

She maintained that in 2000, the country made history as the first to adopt the Kimberley Process Certification (KPC) to regulate the trade in diamonds.
