Smiling Through Light has held a One Child One Lamp campaign fundraising event at the Hub Hotel Wilberforce at Freetown. The One Child One Lamp campaign according to the founder and Director of Smiling Through Light, Mariama Kamara is targeting school-going children across the country but mostly the ones that were affected by the mudslide.

Giving the background of the organization the founder and Director Mariama Kamara disclosed that, Smiling Through Light works to provide clean reliable and sustainable energy in Sierra Leone, stating that their aimed is to take it throughout Africa and that they are they working with the network of women.

“One day I had this idea just walking in Sierra Leone and I visited a community where people were using kerosene lamps and candle to just live their basic lives and it something that we all need”; adding that they are fight the energy problem though it huge.

She added that the most interesting thing of the renewable energy is that it cut off too many expenses in well-being, education and develop economy. 

According to Kamara the light will help the children to study for long and can also serves as security at night, adding that it can also give health benefits.

The One Child One Lamp campaign according to the founder was launched last year in London to support school going children with clean reliable solar product for their schooling.

She further said that the donation will be starting in Kamayama one of the affected mudslide community, adding the community have six deprived community school.

“The lamp is very easy to use. They just need charging from the sun because they can replace Kerosene and Candle,” Kamara said; adding that the lamp is a clean energy source.
