Kadiatu Conteh, a mother of eight children and three grandchildren got the passion to be formally educated when she gets her first mobile cell phone.

According to her, she was finding it challenging to use her cell phone especially when she wanted to make a phone calls or reading a text message.

Because of this, she decided to take home lessons for certain period before finally enrolling at the Alhadi Islamic Primary School, Makeni to pursue her longtime dream.

Two months ago when first contacted by AYV about her educational career, the 45-year old pupil said she is determined to continue her education on to university level and she intends to become a teacher. She went on to say that, she took the same public exams with her three grandchildren – which according her, was a wonderful experience studying together and sitting in the same class with her grandchildren and other children that are even younger than the latter.

She finally took her exams at the St Francis Secondary School, Makeni in the midst of colleague pupils that are contemporaries with her grandchildren. During lunch hour, she explained to AYV about her experience whilst writing her first public exams.

She said she was nervous initially especially when the first bell was rung for the commencement of the exams. She furthered that it takes few minutes before she started writing. She however assured this medium that she is optimistic to come out with flying colors – as the exams reflect on what she has been taught over the time.

Kadiatu Conteh admonished all, especially young people to be studious and dedicated on education – as according to her, education is self-empowerment and a tool to change society.
