During the discussions, the High Commissioner stated that it would be a unique opportunity for both schools to share best practices and was hopeful the initiative would encourage girls to strive for greater heights in the field of education and contribution meaningfully to national development.

The High Commissioner commended efforts of the President of Sierra Leone Dr. Julius Maada Bio and his new administration for the implementation of free quality education programme and the launch of the flagship programme of the First Lady Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio, “Hands off Our Girls”, designed to protect and also promote girl’s education in Sierra Leone. He intimated that such cooperation would not only strengthen further the bilateral ties between the two countries, but would make the benefits of our diplomatic relations more tangible to the ordinary person.

Following his visit, the Ghana High Commissioner has facilitated a successful meeting between the headmistress of the Annie Walsh Memorial School, Ophelia Morrison and that of the Wesley Girls’ Memorial School, Kay A. Oppong-Ankomah at the Annie Walsh Memorial School in Freetown.

Arrangements are underway for a possible visit by some students and tutors of the Annie Walsh Memorial School, to the Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast, Ghana.
