Sahr Nepor made this statement while assuring citizens of full-time electricity following the departure of the Karadeniz Powership Dogan Bey and fear of blackout by citizens in Freetown.

The absence of the Karadeniz Powership should not be a problem in stopping the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority from not fulfilling its mandate, the PRO said.

He added that the Karadeniz Powership left the shores of Freetown for maintenance, adding that full-time power supply is available despite the departure of the powership.

Electric transmission and distribution problems have been a cause for concern across the country because of the old system which needs urgent improvement in order for citizens to benefit from electricity.

Mr. Nepor stated that before the inception of the Karadeniz Powership the country was utilizing the Bumbuna Hydro that has been supplying electricity in the country.

“We all know that we are in the Rainy Season, and for this time Bumbuna is able to supply us the much needed capacity to supply our customers,” he assured, adding that the Powership in the East of Freetown is still in operation.

The Ministry of Energy and the EDSA according to Mr. Nepor had informed the public that the Powership will be departing Freetown for maintenance in a press release.

Mr. Nepor disclosed that the Bumbuna Hydro is also able to supply the same capacity as the Powership and that their customers can be assured of 18-20 hours electricity even if their customers cannot get 24 hours electricity.

“We are quite aware that we are in the turbulent moment as a result of the rains and we know that during this period we are sure to expect interruption in the network via falling poles, cut wires, damaged transformers among other issues,” he said.

He went on to say that they are expecting the Powership to return in December to continue operation, adding that the powership was due for maintenance because it had been working for a long time.
