It can be recalled that for months now, passengers using this ferry have been raising concerns over a seeming health hazard pose by unhygienic sanitary facility aboard.

Passengers who spoke to AYV complained that the only available lavatory on the ferry is not being properly kept, as stench from human faeces and urine infusing the air.

Some aggrieved passengers told this medium that passengers are unable to flush the toilet after using because of lack of water.

However, a member of the ferry’s management who spoke on anonymity blamed passengers for misusing the toilet, informing that they provide water but many passengers do not flush after using the toilet.

Ferries serve a very useful purpose for travelers in and out of Sierra Leone. They are popular with most people because they provide cheap transport, connecting the capital Freetown to the township of Lungi, which hosts the nation’s only international airport.

Demand for their use is high as they offer the shortest distance between the airport and the city, cutting straight across the mouth of the estuary.
