Nonetheless, the silence over this issue has resulted in the death of many adolescent girls through unwanted pregnancies that were terminated mostly by quack doctors.
In support of government’s development priorities and in a bid to limit the rate at which adolescent girls get pregnant, Marie Stopes Sierra Leone has launched the 3rd Edition of the Back to School Promotion, which will run from Monday 23rd September to Saturday 26th October, 2019.
This promotion will allow women and girls to have access to free quality, personalized and confidential services of choice free of user fees. Marie Stopes Sierra Leone aims to provide services to over 20,000 clients, more than the 18,163 clients that received the service during the 2018 Back to School promotion.
Dr. Ufuoma Omo-Obi, Country Director, Marie Stopes Sierra Leone said, “Back to School Promo is an incomparable opportunity that protects our already sexually active adolescents from encountering any form of unintended pregnancy”. Services available during the “Back2School Promotion” period are Long Acting & Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs) specifically IUD (Coil), Implant (Captain Band) and Cervical Cancer Screening including Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) Counseling, and free STI screening and treatment will be provided on Outreach only.
