SEND Sierra Leone and Western Area Rural District Women in Governance Network have commenced a Yellow Ribbon Campaign with Members of Parliament on the Enactment of the Gender Empowerment Bill.
The Gender Empowerment Bill is a topic of national concern and its significant to national development cannot be over emphasised.
Which is why SEND Sierra Leone, an organisation based on promoting Women Empowerment hosts a campaign that will enforce the enactment of the Bill in Parliament.
Mohamed Kanu, Program Officer for SEND Sierra Leone in WARD-C said SEND has championed lots of projects that have supported women to step forward and actively take part in governance, entrepreneurship, community mobilisation and many more that have proven successful.
He said SEND believes so much in women’s leadership and that it will continue to push until the Gender Bill becomes law in Sierra Leone.
Member of Parliament for Constituency 110, Hon. Kadie Davis was also part of the Yellow Ribbon campaign. She said women are the foundation of every development. She encouraged the women to be ready for change and take the lead because according to her, the gender empowerment should first start with them as women.
She elaborated more on how women should be ready to support their fellow women and also learn from successful women that have gone through difficult races.
Member of Parliament for Constituency 106, Mohamed Chernor Kabia said with more women in governance and administrative position in Sierra Leone, there will be less corruption and more progress in the country.
This he said means the country will develop faster and thing will work accordingly, adding that women are naturally administrators with the way they commonly administrates the daily affairs of the home.
The honorable vows to continue supporting the Gender Empowerment Bill to became Law in Sierra Leone as he states the Bill is for the benefit of both gender.
Western Area Rural District Women in Governance Network said they are in full gear to make sure their 30 percent representation is given to them in all aspect.
They say because they are not asking for equal representation but some amount of recognition because if given the opportunity they can do better.
