Member of Parliament for Constituency 066 in the Karene district, Northwest Sierra Leone, Honorable Mohamed Bangura was yesterday, 7th September 2022 sent on remand at the Freetown Male Correctional Centre by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Court No.1.
Hon. Bangura appears in court today alongside APC’s Chairlady for Tonkolili district, Yabom Sesay on 5 Count Charges ranging from Assault on Police Contrary to Section 39 of the Police Act 1964 Act No. 7 of 1946; Insulting Behavior Contrary to Section 3 (1) of the Public Order Act, Act No 46 of 1965; Intimidation Contrary to Section 4 of the Public Order Act of 1965 Act No. 46 of 1965; Riotous Conduct Contrary to Section 12 (a) of the Public Order Act of 1965 as Repealed and Replaced by Act No.5 of 1973; to Obstruction of Police Duty, Contrary to Section 39 of the Police Act 1964, Act of No.7 of 1964.
According to the Charge Sheet, on Count 1, the first accused Mohamed Bangura on Saturday 11th June 2022, at Mathora village, Kholifa Rowala chiefdom, Tonkolili district, Northeast region, Assaulted Assistant Inspector General of Police Gabriel G.M.T. Tommy, whilst in the due execution of his lawful duties.
On Count 2, both accused persons Mohamed Bangura and Yabom Sesay on Saturday 11th June 2022, at the same place did use Insulting Words to the annoyance of Gabriel G.M.T. Tommy in order to provoke him to commit the breach of the peace.
On Count 3, both accused persons on the same date and place, with a view to compelling Gabriel G.M.T. Tommy to abstain from doing his job as the Regional Police Commander for the Northeast region, did wrongfully and without legal authority intimidate Gabriel G.M.T. Tommy by threatening to hit him with his vehicle.
On Count 4, both accused persons on the same date and place behaved in a riotous manner.
On Count 5, both accused persons on the same date and place obstructed Assistant Inspector General of Police Gabriel G.M.T. Tommy whilst in the due execution of his lawful duties.
The accused persons were today represented in Court by batteries of lawyers, led by Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya.
A bail application was made by the Defence Team but objected to by the State Counsel Lawyer Yusuf Isaac Sesay.
In his ruling, Magistrate Mark Ngegba said the offenses charged against the accused persons are serious and will not be granted bail.
Both accused persons were denied bail and sent on remand at the Freetown Male and Female Correctional Centers on Pademba road and New England respectively, until the next adjourned date, 13th September 2022.
