His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, accompanied by his dear wife, the First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio on Sunday 16th October 2022 marked the 2022 World Food Day in an auspicious ceremony held at the Yogomaia Stadium in Kabala, Koinadugu district.

The occasion was celebrated with the theme: “Leave No One Behind”.

His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio highlighted the laudable strides made by his government in respect to enhancing food sufficiency in the country.

According to the President, his government continues to undertake bold and practical steps in addressing challenges in the agricultural sector, despite the ravaging consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, the rising global prices and international tensions.

He used the occasion as an opportunity to make a global clarion call for stakeholders to build a sustainable system in the agricultural sector where everyone everywhere has regular access to enough nutritious food as the theme for this year presupposes.

Making a statement on behalf of the Food and Agricultural Organisation, the Country Representative, Saeed Abubakar Bancie assured that the FAO will continue to provide the necessary support in making sure there is enough food in the world.

Noting the current global challenges, he reaffirmed the organisation’s determination in leaving no one behind.

Quoting a survey done by the UNDP on fifty countries around the world on food initiatives, Sierra Leone is among the fifty countries that has made encouraging progress in advancing sustainable food systems in the world.
