Welcoming the President, Kinderdorf Siddhartha Kaul, a child at the Physically Challenged Home, Josephine Sankoh, said SOS had contributed to the socio-economic development of the nation and that they anticipated their home would continue to play an integral role in the lives of the less privileged in the country.
A pupil of the school, Adama Kamara, stated that SOS had provided support to the country at all times, including during trying times. She pointed out the several support they had provided for the country during the Ebola outbreak, while pleading to SOS to expand their support base for vulnerable children.
Responding to the welcome address, President Kaul thanked authorities and the children, while pointing out that they were the power to drive things forward.
The first Children’s Village was founded by Hermann Gmeiner in 1949 in Imst, Austria.
He was committed to helping children in need, children who had lost their homes, their security and their families as a result of the Second World War.
With support from many donors and co-workers, the organization had grown to help children all over the world. SOS Children’s Village operates in 147 countries worldwide.
The president of SOS Children’s Villages International assumes overall leadership of the global federation of 117 member associations, supporting consistency and cohesion. He leads the international senate and ensures a common approach among the governance bodies of the senate.
Management council and management team presidents represent the federation externally and internally.
Mr. Kaul was elected president in June 2012 and re-elected for the second four-year term, in June 2016.

President of the Herman Gmeiner SOS International Sierra Leone has started his familiarization visit to the country, interacted with staff and commissioned some new structures at the SOS Children’s Village on Beach Road in Freetown.
