Director of Operations in the Sierra Leone Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Dr. John Martin Senesie has informed that as institution mandated by law to protect lives and properties, they are doing their best to fight Kush and would continue but cannot do it all alone thus the need for multi-sectoral approach.

As the fight against Kush becomes a national concern, the Police in their weekly press conference outlined stances and actions in combating the killer drug.

Director of Professional Standards, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Sahr Yomba Senesie, disclosed the sacking of nine (9) officers in the last few days for breaching the 2001 Police Disciplinary Regulations on drugs. A decision many people believed is unconnected with Kush smoking and/or dealing.

The Force, he said, has no sacred cow and that an officer caught with Kush or in a place where it is been sold will toe the line like any other offender.

He added that besides Kush, officers who goes out of their way in the discharge of their duties would be dealt with according to the 2001 disciplinary regulations.

The chief disciplinarian assured that the SLP is making sure that it deliver the best for Sierra Leoneans.

Director of Crime Services, Commissioner of Police (CP) Joseph Ibrahim Lahai said the Kush prevalence has increased to a point of becoming worrisome in the country.

“If this Kush prevalence continue in this way, for the next 10 to 15 years, our human resources capacity will be doomed.” Commissioner of Police Lahai noted, adding that the fight against Kush should therefore be the concern of all and not be left in the hands of the police alone.

Local Unit Commander (LUC) of Ross Road Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Emmanuel Kpulun stated that demolishing of makeshift structures use as ghettos or selling points of Kush also form part of the new measures in curbing the menace.
