EU funds Kambia district with $2.5M investment activities

The ceremony was witnessed by the Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs Amb. Tamba Lamina, EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone Manuel Mullar, EU Africa Director General Rissta Laranjinha, Paramount Chiefs, Local Authorities, Council Head, and other residents of Kambia district.

Team Lead of Project Management Unit Lameck Siage while providing details of the EU-funded 2.5 Million dollar project that started in 2018 mentioned that it was a great achievement for them and the people of Kambia district since the inception of the project. He proudly announced the completion of 55 shops together with the Drivers Union Office, including some other basic amenities. Similarly, another forty-four shops were completed at Bamioluma and twenty-two shops in Madina.

Mr. Siage expressed his excitement of announcing that they have done four Bore-holes at different locations and connecting roads through the construction of fider roads, and bridges at different towns in the district. He concluded by encouraging critics to embrace such development in the district, especially for its sustainability.

The EU Africa Director General Rita Laranjinha was warmly received by Kambia District Council Officials, the Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Members of Parliament of the Committee on Local Government, representatives of the Drivers Union, Traders Union, and other locals.

As it is her first time visiting Sierra Leone. In her remarks, after she was traditionally decorated expressed thanks for the recognition shown upon her. Madam Rita Laranjinha started to underscore the European Union has been supporting Sierra Leone in many other ways like infrastructure and the event she witnessed is a testament to their work.

She was impressed by the road construction that was done by the European Union as she traveled from Guinea to Conakry to be part of the commissioning of the projects.

Noting these infrastructures are still serving the population of the locals and Sierra Leoneans as well and emphasized that the European Union will continue to support the population of Sierra Leone.

Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs Ambassador Tamba Lamina commissions the 2.5 million dollar project from the European Union to the Kambia district to strengthen decentralizing and service delivery.

Minister Tamba Lamina pointed out that His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio launched the projects for six districts that are; Bombali, Kenema, Kambia, Pujehun, Karene and Falaba. He thanked the European Union, implementing partners, and the people of Kambia for their role in ensuring that the projects were completed.

Long ago the residents of Kambia formulated different programs that included the building of bridges and feeder roads for access to markets, health care services refurbishment, revenue general programs, capacity building programs that will enable it to function well, and empowering the council for proper service delivery, Minister Lamina noted. He further mentioned that what they have started at that time, they have achieved it together with the EU.

However, many of the traders at Kambia main park, Bamioluma and other towns express delight for the construction market stores and the facilities for them. They also noted that the project should be seen beyond politics but part of development for the district.
