On behalf of the Government and people of Sierra Leone, the Deputy Minister of Communications, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Sannoh, has signed the ratification of the Second Protocol of the Budapest Convention on strengthening the fight against cybersecurity and related crimes.
The signing took place at the Council of Europe Headquarters in Strasbourg, France. This significant step demonstrates Sierra Leone’s commitment to enhancing its cybersecurity framework and combating cybercrime.
By ratifying this protocol, Sierra Leone joins 72 other countries in adhering to the articles of the Budapest Convention, which will serve as a crucial guide for the nation’s cyber policies and initiatives.
This milestone under President Bio’s leadership adds to Sierra Leone’s growing list of international engagements, including serving as Chair of the UN Security Council and Chair of the C10. As noted by Deputy Minister Sannoh, the commitment to the Budapest Convention underscores the country’s dedication to addressing cybersecurity challenges and fostering a safer digital environment.
This ratification is expected to bolster Sierra Leone’s efforts in tackling cyber threats and ensuring the protection of its digital infrastructure, aligning with global standards and practices.
