“The civil register is a data that is formed after the registration of vital events by an authorized institution. The civil registration is one way by which the country can keep continuous and complete record of births, deaths and the marital status of the nation.” Executive Director, Foundation for Gender Development Initiative Sierra Leone Mohamed Juana uttered.

Mohamed Juana stated that the civil registration happened to be a compulsory registration and that as a citizen they need it to seek employment, applying to study in the universities across the country and also for the national provision of essential amenities.

Local Unit Commander, Kissy Division Supt. Francis Hazeley encouraged all Sierra Leoneans to participate in the process and that they as law enforcement agency might not want to see anybody come in contact with the law because of civil registration.

Francis Hazeley told the community people that after the civil registration that happened to be free and that anyone that failed to go through the process would have to pay for civil registration when they might eventually want it.

“The civil registration is seen as a unique process that creates legal documents that are used to establish and protect the civil rights of individuals.” Hazeley emphasized. 

A sheikh at kissy, Abubakar Jalloh highlighted on the importance of civil registration, as he said   civil registration started from the religious perspective and that it was Adama who started giving names and identity to creation, adding that it was from that point that the civil registration began. He emphasized that as Sierra Leoneans we are to be identified,  a situation he said essential for one to claim his/her inalienable entitlement as citizens of  this nation.

Jalloh reiterated that Mass Civil Registration was the process through which NCRA plans to capture and record the identity and biometric details of the citizens and non-citizen’s residents in the country.
