Professor Thompson continues to demonstrate his determination to rid the University of bribery and corruption as these would undermine the quality of education in the country and water down the human resource base of our beloved Nation.
The Ag. Vice Chancellor and Principal told graudands, Avoid corruption, Avoid bribery. Take no bribe, receive no bribe. By doing so you will be supporting the Pay No Bribe campaign of our partner-the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Professor Thompson climaxed his address with the distribution of Pay No Bribe promotional materials-wristbands, pens, and stickers to the graudands.
ACC Commissioner Ady Macauley Esq. expressed great delight over this development, and implored other Heads of institutions to emulate the bold and patriotic step taken by Prof. Thompson to publicly support the PNB campaign and discourage bribery incidences in their entities. Together, we will make Sierra Leone is bribe-free society, he emphasized.
It will be recalled that on the 10th April 2017, the Commission engaged staff of the University Secretariat Tower Hill, to propagate PNB messages, and solicit support; which was well appreciated by the Ag. VC, Professor Thompson, who at that meeting pledged his unflinching support to the campaign.
The Pay No Bribe is an innovative reporting platform which empowers citizens to anonymously report incidents of bribery and petty corruption. Citizens will call 515 free on all networks, the PNB website; www.pnb.gov.sl, or on the mobile application in Krio, Temne and Mende to make their complaints.
The campaign is led jointly by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Office of the Chief of Staff in coordination with relevant MDAs. The PNB platform is funded by UK Aid and GoSL, with Coffey International providing technical support to the ACC and GoSL in the implementation of the project.
PNB is piloted in five (5) sectors; the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Water (GUMA Valley and SALWACO), Energy (EDSA), Education and Health and in the districts of; Western Area Rural, and Urban; Bombali, Bo and Kenema. After the pilot, PNB will be expanded to operate nationwide, and may include additional sectors.
