Many streets in Makeni have almost gone dark due to the dubious act of few hoodlums who has taken thieving as their mainstay.
As the Krio adage goes: “99 days for Tiff-Man and 1 day for the Master-Ose”, this has come to reality on Thursday 8th June, 2017 along Magburaka Road in Makeni wherein a man in his early 20s was caught in broad day light whilst trying to transport alleged stolen solar panels and batteries.
Eye witnesses stated that the alleged perpetrator who keeps giving fake descriptions about himself was seen along Magburaka Bridge with the alleged stolen items. He was about boarding a motorbike when a group of well meaningful and concerned residents intercepted him for interrogation. As he could not clearly explained about the possession of the said property, temporal mob justice was meted on him by angry beneficiaries of the facility, but thanks to the arrival of the Sierra Leone Police to save his soul.
He is currently at the Rogbaneh Police Station aiding the Police with their investigation. Preliminary findings have led to the naming of his accomplices of which are currently in thin air.
If the precedent in Port Look District is anything to go by, the alleged perpetrator who still dwells in the shade of anonymity will soon be prosecuted and given high jail term so that ringing bells will be continued to be rung on the ears of anti-social persons.
Assistance Superintendent of Police in charge of crime at Rogbaneh Police Division spoke about the other stolen solar accessories of which are in their custody. Margaret Marrah reaffirmed Police commitment in curbing the ongoing theft of this social amenity in the municipality of Makeni.
The newly transferred Local Unit Commander in the division expressed his dismay over this ugly unfolding. Chief Superintendent Songo promised to replicate the success story of Kailahun District when a similar scenario started by certain unscrupulous individuals. For the current state of affairs to be controlled, LUC Songo called for the fullest implementation of community policing and meanwhile taking ownership of the facility by all and sundry in the Municipality of Makeni.
Many residents who spoke with this medium stated that the stealing of solar panels and batteries will only be prevented when robust police patrols are instituted especially in the central business district. The multiple dollar question posed by many of them is that how could public property located in streets expected to be stamping grounds for police patrol teams be a target for mischievous individuals?
Comments from both residents and security personnel have been heard, so it is high time they combined all of them in other to do away with the blame game.
