Reintegration of teenage mother

A board member of the National Commission for Children (NCC) who is also a representative from the Interreligious Council, Haja Alimatu Abdullah stated that the NCC has been protecting and promoting the affairs of children for over three years. She furthered that the NCC is committed to monitoring and coordinating the implementation of the Convention of African Chapter of the Right and Welfare of the Child. She said the commission happened to oversee part 3 of the child right act of 2007 and to advice government on improving the welfare of the child.

 

The commissioner, for the National Commission for Children Olayinka Laggah stated that teen mothers are facing so many challenges in their communities, schools and also with their parents, adding that the qualitative data challenges facing by teen mothers are low self esteem; stigma, discrimination, Neglect and abandonment,   are added responsibilities with huge challenges facing them

 

The presentation was climaxed with feedback and recommendation from participants.

 

The event brought together representative from Government officials and non-governmental organizations and cross section of teenage mothers.
