Deputy Police Chief retires after 6 months in office

Deputy Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, Aiah Edward Samadia, has officially retired from the Force effective yesterday 5th February, 2025, after attaining the mandatory retirement age.

On 13th July, 2024 the Police Council appointed Aiah Edward Samadia as Deputy Inspector General of Police. He is the first DIG to leave the Sierra Leone Police as a retired DIG, as all others were either sacked or removed from office.

Aiah Edward Samadia was promoted to the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police (D.I.G), nearly two years after his transfer from the Southern Region to the Northeastern Region as Assistant Inspector General.

The promotion was officially announced by the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, in a formal letter to Mr. Samadia. The appointment was made by the Police Council in accordance with Section 157(2) of the Sierra Leone Constitution.

As Deputy Inspector General, Mr. Samadia brouught a wealth of experience to his role. He joined the Sierra Leone Police in 1987 and has since served in various capacities, including leadership roles in the Northwest, Southern, and Northeastern Regions.

Prior to this promotion, he served as Assistant Inspector General of Police, where he demonstrated notable firmness, professionalism, and dedication.
