The AYV Charity Foundation yesterday 20th February, 2025 donated some food items to the SOS Hermann Gmeiner Children’s Village on Lumley Beach Road in Freetown.

Presenting the food items, Director of Sponsorship, AYV Foundation, Daniel Moore said the Foundation is the humanitarian aspect of the Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire. He said the donation seeks to acknowledge SOS’s unique work in supporting deprived children across the country.

Mr. Moore said: “Being a humanitarian Foundation with similar goals to those of SOS, we are here to support the process of providing for children and the needy. This donation, marks the start of a relationship AYV wants to establish with SOS Hermann Gmeiner, one that will see SOS’s work for the children of Sierra Leone, being promoted on all AYV platforms”.

He said the AYV Foundation has been working with lots of partners that cater for children and deprived people, adding that the Foundation provides resources, mentorship and platforms that amplify their voices, promote accessibility. He said its further creates opportunities for meaningful participation in society.

Receiving the items on behalf of the National Director of SOS Hermann Gmeiner in Sierra Leone, the Head of Program and Management Support, Christopher Teh, thanked AYV Foundation for choosing the SOS Hermann Gmeiner Children’s Village as beneficiary for the food items.

Christopher Teh said: “You may be thinking that what you have donated to us is small, but for us, it is very valuable because we are going to transform it into monitory terms. We also want you to know that these items are going to cover a bulk of what we actually want to run the Village for the children. Thank you AYV Foundation for remembering us, as we look forward to more supports!”.

He explained that SOS Children’s Villages is a non-governmental organisation that provides care and support to children and families in need, adding that it provides family-based care for children who are orphaned or at risk of losing their parents.

Additionally, Mr. Teh said the Village also support families facing difficulties, advocates for children’s rights, strengthens families so they can stay together, provides permanent family homes, provides quality education and healthcare, develops community-based programs to prevent child abandonment and adapts support to meet the needs of communities affected by HIV/AIDS.

The donated food items include 50kg bags of rice, salts, gallons of cooking oil, bundles of pure water and other cooking condiments.

The AYV Foundation is a humanitarian relief intervention aimed to empower children with disabilities and underserved communities through education, media and inclusive development programs.

During the devastating Mudslide on Mount Sugar Loaf in Freetown, Sierra Leone in August 2017, the Foundation was one of the leading humanitarian organisations that facilitated relief assistance to thousands of survivors.
