Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has officially opened the Dr. Fatima Maada Bio College of Health Sciences and Technology (DFMBC) in Waterloo. The college is expected to mainly serve Waterloo residents. This is according to news posted on social media page of the Office of the First Lady.
The reports say that the event was attended by dignitaries, government officials, community members and the press.
“This landmark institution is set to revolutionize healthcare education and training in Sierra Leone, empowering future medical professionals and strengthening the nation’s health sector,” stated the First Lady during her speech.
According to the First Lady, the newly established institution aims to provide quality higher education and vocational training in healthcare and technology fields.
The First Lady highlighted that the college is “part of a broader initiative to promote educational access and equity in Sierra Leone,” designed with modern facilities to create an engaging learning environment.
She emphasized the importance of education in empowering individuals and transforming communities, ensuring inclusivity for all.
According to residents in Waterloo, the college is expected to address unemployment and underemployment in the surrounding areas by equipping youth with essential skills for the job market.
In her remarks, the First Lady further shared that the college would prioritize “healthcare education and training in Sierra Leone, empowering future medical professionals” as a vital contribution to the national healthcare sector.
The First Lady participated in a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony and toured the campus, engaging with future students and community members. Community leaders and stakeholders expressed optimism that the college would provide opportunities for the local youth, offering them skills and vocational training that would aid them in securing meaningful employment.
Residents also noted that, the college’s establishment is seen as part of a wider effort to strengthen the education system, particularly focusing on areas such as health sciences, technology, and vocational training.
