Chairman of the Centenary Committee of the Prince of Wales (POW) School in Sierra Leone, Hon. Justice Reginald Fynn, has expressed satisfaction that the School was able to pull tremendous success in the celebration of its 100 years of academic excellence.
“As we celebrate our centenary, I am overwhelmed with pride and joy as I look back on the remarkable journey we have undertaken together. One hundred years ago, our great Prince of Wales School was founded with a vision to impart knowledge, foster innovation, and cultivate leaders who would shape the future of our country and impact the global stage.
“Today, we stand as a testament to that vision: Tis not alone in science lore the manly sons and daughters of our Prince of Wales school are excelling; the cricket and the athletic grounds also tell the tales of our triumph. The church, the state, the camp and bar with a united voice attest that whereso’er bright honour calls the manly sons and daughters of our great Prince of Wales school are with the best.
“This remarkable milestone is not just a celebration of our past but a deliberate effort to map out a sustainable pathway for the future. As we celebrate, let’s take a moment to honour the countless individuals who have contributed to our legacy. From our founders, who dedicated their lives to education, to all of us who have walked our halls, our collective contributions have been invaluable”.
He called on all to celebrate the milestones that have defined them, adding: “we have witnessed extraordinary academic advancements and the building of lifelong friendships. Princewaleans have excelled in various fields, from science and technology to arts and humanities, all while upholding the values instilled in us during our time here. This legacy of excellence sets us apart and is a legacy we must continue to nurture”.
The Prince of Wales School held dual Thanksgiving Services / prayers on Sunday, April 6th, 2025, at two separate venues to reflect its inclusive heritage, as part of the school Centenary celebrations.
The Muslim prayers took place at Foulah Mosque, Magazine Cut, with Alhaji Mohamed Salaam delivering a powerful sermon. Simultaneously, the Christian service took place at the Church of Holy Trinity, Kissy Road, led by Bishop Arnold C. Temple JP.
Both gatherings brought together pupils, alumni, staff, and well-wishers, offering prayers and gratitude for the school’s 100 years of academic excellence, discipline, and national service. See pages 8 and 9 of this edition for photo news of happenings.
