According to the 2025 Mid-Year Progress Report published by the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), Sierra Leone has made significant strides in its development under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio.

State House Communications Director, Myk Berewa, outlinedthe country’s advancements across various sectors, as well as the challenges it continues to face in building a more inclusive and resilient nation.

In the economic sphere, the report notes that growth remains steady, with inflation declining from 47% in 2024 to 7.1% in 2025. It shows a positive sign for the country’s economic stability and progress.

The education sector has also seen remarkable improvements, with a 94% net enrolment rate and the achievement of gender parity at the primary level. This notably aligns with the government’s efforts in ensuring equitable access to education for all.

In the health sector, the report highlights the continued decline in maternal mortality and the impressive 90% neonatal survival rate. Additionally, the country has reached nearly 150,000 people with the Mpox vaccination, a testament to the government’s efforts to prioritize public health.

The report also commends Sierra Leone’s progress in the areas of food security and climate action. Thousands of farmers have been supported with climate-smart agriculture, livestock, and solar-powered water systems, demonstrating the country’s commitment to sustainable development.

On the governance and gender front, the report notes the enactment of a new Social Protection Bill, the launch of an online business registration system, and the increased participation of women in peace and governance processes.

While the report acknowledges the country’s achievements, it also highlights the ongoing challenges, including financing gaps, data limitations, and the impact of climate shocks.

The Sierra Leonean government, in partnership with the UN, has expressed commitments to address those issues and continue the country’s progress towards a more resilient and prosperous future.
